Elza Tantcheva-Burdge

The Colour Group
Vice-Chairman
London
Elza Tantcheva-Burdge is presently the Vice-Chairman of the Colour Group (Great Britain). Her background is in both science and art and design. She attained masters in both and worked in industry and research before deciding to combine her interests in colour both in science and in art, developing a new methodology for art historical research using scientific methods, mainly colourimetry. She gained a doctorate for her studies on use of colour and light in five seventeenth-century church interiors.

Arising from her personal interest in film, in 2014 she began talks with Prof Dr Ulrich Ruedel, of the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (the University of Technology and Applied Sciences) Berlin, on the possibility of staging an international forum discussing all aspects of colour in film. In 2016, the two of them, together with the BFI, organised the First International Conference Colour in Film. The forum continued to gather up momentum ever since.
